SsD in Mole Magazine: Cute Little Things

Following on their lecture at Waterloo School of Architecture, Jinhee Park and John Hong delve into the important role of cuteness in architecture using Miyazake Hiyao’s character Totoro as a launching point. Their essay ‘Totoro’s Sublime,’ is featured in the inaugural issue of Mole Magazine, published by Riverside Architectural Press and Waterloo School of Architecture.

“Totoro inverts the physiology and psychology of the term cute through a character that is sublime and larger-than-life. At one instance Totoro is fuzzy, huggable, and innocent, and at another, teeth-baring, omnipotent, and wise.”
