Perth Amboy High School
| Perth Amboy, NJ | 2003 [competition, published in Archiworld, 2006]
Because of the large size of this 3000 student highschool, the connection between the individual student with the larger institution is of foremost importance. 6 flexible academies with instructional common spaces at their cores help maintain a sense of intimate scale. These academies however are closely interrelated to the larger institution through circulation patterns and interior courtyards. Ecologically, the building becomes a working model for the school and community: Outdoor spaces double as learning areas where students can directly interact with the environment.
