Chapman Loft
New York, NY | 2006

A positive relationship exists between movement and stasis: Experiences of home and travel become reciprocating encounters where each informs the other through memory, space, and time. Without resorting to nostalgia, the design and materiality of this Soho loft echoes spaces that the well-traveled owner has experienced or glimpsed. Storage and display areas actively recontextualize the diverse variety of ancient and modern artifacts as they are brought into the home. Social spaces for discussion and story-telling are dispersed throughout the loft providing a backdrop for both intimate and gregarious conversations.
